The short answer
Dante Key Replacement is a mobile locksmith service in Eastern Connecticut that replaces and programs car keys and key fobs, opens vehicles, homes, apartments, and businesses that people are locked out of, and rekeys or changes locks. We travel to the vehicle or the property, so nothing needs to be towed or carried in.
You do not need to know whether you want a transponder key or a proximity fob. Pick the sentence that sounds like your day and the right page explains the rest.
A new working key or fob made for your vehicle, cut and programmed where the vehicle sits.
Every key is gone and there is no spare. A new key is made from the vehicle rather than copied.
A replacement remote or proximity fob, programmed to your vehicle and tested before it is handed over.
Pairing a key or fob to your vehicle so the immobilizer accepts it and the remote functions work.
Chipped keys, proximity smart keys, and push to start systems, explained and replaced.
A second key made before you need one, plus broken key and ignition key situations.
A worn ignition cylinder that will no longer turn to the on position, repaired at the vehicle.
Entry to a car, truck, SUV, van, camper, or RV when the keys are locked inside or in the trunk.
Entry to a house, apartment, condo, garage, or interior door without damaging the door.
Entry to an office, storefront, or commercial door, with authorization checked first.
Your existing locks keep working but every old key stops. The usual answer after a move or a lost key.
New hardware installed when the existing lock is worn, damaged, obsolete, or not secure enough.
Plain words, no locksmith terms. Most people know what happened; very few know what the job is called. That is our part.

Answer in plain words. This points you to the right service in about ten seconds.
Commercial doors use different hardware from a house, and authorization has to be checked before the door is opened. Have proof that you are entitled to access the premises ready.
This is entry only. No key is cut and nothing is programmed, so it is the simplest and quickest of the vehicle jobs.
With no key left to copy, a new key is made from the vehicle itself and then programmed to the immobilizer. This is a longer job than a simple duplicate, and it needs proof of ownership without exception.
A key that turns but will not start the engine usually means the immobilizer is not recognizing it. That is a programming or transponder problem rather than a cut key problem.
Buttons that stopped responding are very often a dead coin cell battery rather than a failed fob. That is worth ruling out before anything is replaced.
This is the cheapest time to solve a key problem, because a working key already exists to copy from. Once every key is gone the job becomes considerably more involved.
A key that snapped or wore down needs a new key made. If part of it is stuck in the lock or the ignition, say so clearly, because that changes what is involved.
The aim is entry without damaging your door or your lock. Proof that you live there is required before any door is opened.
Lost keys are a security problem, not just an access problem. Rekeying keeps your existing hardware and makes every lost key stop working.
You cannot know how many keys were handed out before you arrived. Rekeying is the standard first move in a new home and it is usually cheaper than replacing hardware.
When hardware is worn, damaged, or obsolete, replacing it is often the better value than repairing it. If the lock is still sound, rekeying may be all you need.

Would rather just talk to someone?
Skip the questions. A call sorts it in a minute.
You know the price before anyone drives out, and you pay only when the work is finished.
Tell us the vehicle or the property, the exact location, and what happened. For a vehicle, the year, make, and model decide which key it uses.
You hear the price and when to expect us before anyone is dispatched. If a vehicle needs the dealer, you are told now, not in your driveway.
A photo ID plus the registration, title, deed, lease, or addressed mail. It is the step that protects your property from anyone else.
Keys are cut, programmed, and tested at the vehicle. Locks are opened without damage and rekeys are tried on every cylinder.
Every job runs the same way, whether it is a car key on a Tuesday morning or a front door on a Saturday.
Vehicle work and door work travel in the same van, so one visit can solve both when a whole set of keys goes missing.
Keys locked in, every key lost, a fob that stopped working, or a key that will not turn. Fixed where the vehicle is parked.
Locked out of the house, keys lost, or just moved in and unsure who still has a key.
A storefront or office door that will not open, or locks to change after a key walks out with a former employee.
Rekeying between tenants, lost unit keys, and lock changes, with the owner or manager authorizing the work.
Every job is quoted for your actual vehicle or your actual lock. These are the things that move the number, so nothing about it is a surprise.
The year, make, and model, whether any working key is left, and where the vehicle is parked.
You hear the price for your exact vehicle or lock, and when to expect us, before anyone is dispatched.
Nothing is paid up front. You pay once the job is finished and tested. Card, tap to pay, and cash are all accepted.

Locked out right now?
Call or text with where you are and what happened. You get a quote and an ETA on the spot.
This is a mobile service, not a shop. There is no storefront to drive to, and no vehicle needs towing to reach it.
The service area covers New London County, Windham County, Tolland County, Hartford County, and Middlesex County. Each town page explains what the local roads, housing, and access conditions mean for the job, because a lockout in a Willimantic apartment and a lockout on a rural Voluntown back road are not the same visit.
Start typing your town, village, or ZIP code. If you are near the edge of the service area, call or text with the exact address or the nearest cross street, and you get a yes or no before anyone is dispatched.
50 service areas
Nothing in the service area matches that yet, but it may still be close enough. Call or text (860) 574-1635 with the address or the nearest cross street for a straight yes or no.
A Toyota from 2008 and a Toyota from 2018 use different key technology. Each manufacturer page explains which systems that brand uses, and says plainly where a dealer may be required instead.
A thick plastic head with a chip hidden inside.
Never inserted. The vehicle starts at a button.
A thick plastic head with no buttons is a transponder key. It is cut, then paired to the immobilizer so the engine will start. A fob you never insert is a proximity smart key, and it is the more expensive of the two to replace because the security process around it is stricter.
Knowing which one you are holding answers most of the cost question before you ask it. If you are unsure, send a photo with your request and it is identified straight away.
Straight answers to the things everyone wants settled before they let a locksmith near their car or their front door.

Yes, for most vehicles. This is called an all keys lost job. With no key left to copy, the new key is made from the vehicle itself and then programmed so the immobilizer accepts it and the engine starts.
That is also why it takes longer than making a spare. If you still have one working key, the new key can usually be copied from it and programmed alongside it. If every key is gone, the key has to be created from scratch. Proof of ownership is required either way. The lost car key and all keys lost page walks through the full process.
We come to you. This is a mobile service across Eastern Connecticut, so the work happens where your vehicle or property already is. There is no shop to visit and no counter to wait at.
That matters most when the vehicle cannot be driven, which is exactly the case when the key is missing: nothing needs towing just to get a key made. If you are near the edge of the area, check your town first.
It depends on the vehicle, the key type, how the key has to be programmed, whether every key is lost, and where the vehicle is. A basic metal key, a transponder key, a remote head key, and a proximity smart key are four different parts and four different jobs.
Send the year, make, and model, and say whether any working key is left. You get an upfront quote for your exact vehicle before anyone is dispatched, and you pay only after the work is done. What changes the price is set out further down this page.
Card, tap to pay, or cash are all accepted. You pay once the work is finished and tested, never before anyone arrives.
Your quote is given before anyone is dispatched, so you know the price before the work starts.
Proof of ownership, without exception. For a vehicle that means the registration or the title plus a photo ID that matches it. For a home it means a deed, a lease, or recent mail with your name at that address, plus a photo ID.
It is checked in person before any key is made or any lock is opened, so there is nothing to send in advance. The same check is what stops someone doing this to your vehicle or your home.
Not always. A fob can stop working because of a weak battery, worn buttons, lost programming, or a genuine fault, and a weak vehicle battery can look like a fob problem too. From the driver seat they all look the same.
Tell us what still works: whether the buttons unlock the doors, whether the vehicle starts, and whether you have another working key or fob. Those three answers narrow it down quickly, and the actual fault is found at your vehicle before any part is replaced. The key fob page sets out the sequence.
Rekeying keeps your existing locks and changes the pins inside them, so the old keys stop working. It suits most moves and most lost house keys when the hardware is in good condition, and it is usually the lower cost route.
Replacement changes the hardware itself. It is the better choice when a lock is worn, damaged, obsolete, or not secure enough for the door. The lock change page compares the two side by side.
Then you are told before anyone is sent out, so you do not pay for a wasted trip. Some newer vehicles keep key programming behind security systems that only the manufacturer controls, and a few brands are not serviced at all: Tesla, Porsche, and Volvo.
Each vehicle manufacturer page says which key systems that brand uses and where a dealer may be needed, so you can check before you call.
Send the vehicle or the property, where it is, and what went wrong. You get a straight answer on whether it can be solved, what it costs, and when we can be there.
